Mario Gomez targets titles with Fiorentina
German international striker Mario Gomez has promised to bring a winning mentality to his new club Fiorentina and has vowed to help Vicenzo Montella’s side lift its first title in over a decade. The Germany hitman recently made the move to Florence after spending several years on the books of Bayern Munich and won the treble with the German giants last year. Gomez has penned a four year deal with Florence outfit and will look to help the club scale the heights they did in the late 1990s.
The last title the club lifted was the Coppa Italia or the Italian Cup back in 2001 and the 28 year old hopes he is able to lead the club to the heights it achieved under the legendary Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta, who is still considered as a legend in the city.
Speaking during his unveiling at his ne club, Mario Gomez also admitted that it was the new Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola who advised him to take the plunge with Fiorentina and stated that he is happy he decided to come to the club after a rousing ovation by the fans.
Gomez admitted that having won everything there was to win in Germany with Bayern, he is hungry for more titles and his first target is to win a title in Italy. He mentioned that the club has guaranteed him an ambitious future in the league and they want to take a step forward and he hopes he can help the club in their project.
Mario Gomez asserted that he will not go as far as promising a certain number of goals but did mention that he wants to score the goals that will help the club achieve the success on the field that they crave so much in the upcoming seasons.
