GOMEZ SAYS RELAX
Former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez believes that none of the players after the German outfit can relax because there is always the constant threat of being replaced by a new player. Gomez was one of the top strikers in the world during his time at Bayern. He was £ 25 million signing, which was a new Bundesliga record at the time, from Stuttgart. He scored more than 40 goals during the last few years at the club, but the arrival of Mario Mandzukic brought an end to his time as the first-team regular. The Croatian was largely picked for the incredibly successful season last time around.
The arrival of Guardiola as the new manager in the summer heralded a new era for the club. Gomez was immediately sold to Italian outfit Fiorentina due to his inability to settle for a substitute’s place. Gomez was unable to accept the new role at the club since it would mean an end to his international career as well. This time at Fiorentina has been less joyful since he has suffered numerous injuries, but as a team, he has done well for the Italian club. He has spoken about the time at Bayern Munich and says that even Mandzukic is not safe.
Mandzukic will be competing for a starting spot along with Robert Lewandowski, who will come on a free transfer, next season.
“From the quality of the team and the club, Bayern are outstanding. At the moment they are the measure of all things. When a new coach and a new system comes in, forwards can be swapped. This is normal in Munich. Everyone is replaceable. This move was absolutely right. Unfortunately I have not been able so little on the pitch so far. I have suffered a lot. At first, it seemed like eight or nine weeks out. Ultimately, it was five months,” said Gomez.
