GOMEZ: ATTACK!
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has said that he expects an attacking style of football from the Germans when they face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg of the Champions League semi-final between the two clubs.
Bayern Munich come into the match on the back of the 2-1 advantage from the first leg after Mario Gomez scored in the last minute of the game to give the Germans a decisive advantage. This has led many to believe that Bayern Munich will be going for a defensive approach when they visit the Santiago Bernabeu. Gomez, though, has rejected such suggestions by saying that he expects Bayern Munich to play their regular game.
“We will attack, just as Real will do. If we put in a performance like we did in the home leg, we will get into the final. For us it is clear, that we will have to score one or two goals. We are in a position to do this, we have outstanding attacking players. But we have to remain compact and tight, then very good counter-attacking opportunities will present themselves,” Mario Gomez said ahead of the second leg encounter between the two clubs. Real Madrid can still have the advantage of the match due to the presence of an away goal and also the support of the home fans.
The winner of the match is likely to meet Barcelona in the final of the Champions League. It is a well-known fact that Bayern Munich have been having a great desire to play in the final of the Champions League this season due to the fact that it will be at the Allianz Arena – their home ground. The Germans are likely to have the advantage in terms of the fitness levels because they rested eight players during the weekend.
