Mario Gomez rejected the Premier League as he joined Besiktas
Mario Gomez has seen his career take a huge turn in a fairly short period of time as the German attacker was a consistent starter in Bayern Munich and helped the club in lifting major titles including: Bundesliga and the Champions League but that would be the high point in the career of Gomez as he later went on to join Fiorentina where he struggled to make an impact after scoring less than 10 goals in 2 seasons for the Italian club.
After having spent such a mediocre campaign with Fiorentina, the Italian club opted to allow Besiktas on making a move for Mario Gomez as he joined the Turkish outfit on a season long loan deal and they have the option to buy Gomez when the loan deal reaches it’s end.
The 30 year old German forward has revealed that he received offers from clubs in Germany as well as England in the Premier League but he decided to join Besiktas as it’s a better chance for him to play regularly in the main team and prepare himself for the upcoming 2016 Euro’s.
The 2016 Euro’s is less than 1 year away from kicking off and Mario Gomez is hoping that he can get in the German national and perform in the approaching tournament.
“I had offers also from England and Germany. Of course I know that the Turkish league is not on the same level as the Bundesliga, the Italian, Spanish or English leagues and looking from the outside, it’s a step back from Bayern to Fiorentina and then to Turkey, but everybody has the right to say what they like.’’
“I am 100 percent convinced by my decision and it is a considered choice.The European Championship next year is a big aim of mine and of course I believe I can make it there too. I just needed to take this step for Euro 2016. The coming months will show what direction things will move in.”
Even if Mario Gomez does get a starting role in Besiktas and starts scoring goals on a consistent basis in his new club, it will not guarantee him a place in the starting XI lineup of Joachim Low as the coach of the German national side has a lot of players who are competing for a chance to get into in his main team.
