Filippo Inzaghi has admitted that the team needs to win
AC Milan manager Filippo Inzaghi has admitted that the team needs to win its match against Palermo on Sunday at all costs in order to stay in the hunt for a European place next season.
This has been branded as the most important objective for the club after missing out on any form of European football this campaign. The arrival of Inzaghi is the replacement for Clarence Seedorf appeared to herald a new era for the club, but the club’s former striker has not been hugely successful this campaign. There have been times when Inzaghi could have been sacked had it not been for his good relationship with owner Silvio Berlusconi.
Things do seem to be looking on the up for Milan after they have won back-to-back matches. The first victory came against Cagliari at the San Siro. This was followed with a friendly victory over Reggiana. They undoubtedly seem to have given the team confidence but it will be apparent only if they get a victory against Palermo and it is easier said than done. Palermo have not managed to win in the last four matches and this probably represents the best chance for Milan to notch up their second consecutive league victory. The team are seven points away from the top four with 10 matches left.
“It’s a tricky race for Europe but if we have ambitions to make it we have to win in Palermo and we have prepared for it.We must follow the performance in the 3-1 win over Cagliari, we come into the game after two good performances, now we have a pretty important test.We have to get three points at all costs, because a victory there would give us a nice leap forward. Yesterday, Honda sustained a sprained ankle. Unfortunately we’ll lose him for a few weeks,” said Inzaghi.
