Gomez Aiming High
Mario Gomez went through a disastrous debut season after signing for the Italian side Fiorentina as Gomez sustained a series of injuries which left him out of action and unable to play for the majority of the past campaign. A knee ligament injury forced the German forward to remain on the sidelines of the team for more than 3 months and when he managed to complete his recovery, Gomez only performed for 5 matches before picking up another injury.
The head coach of Fiorentina, Vincenzo Montella managed to guide the Italian club to the 4th spot of the Italian league, Serie A even with the absence of Mario Gomez who was supposed to be one of the main attacking figures of the team which is why Fiorentina was willing to offload €20 million in order to bring him from Germany to Italy.
Fiorentina will be competing in the Europa League during the next season but Mario Gomez wants to aim even higher and hopefully get into the Champions League. He is however well aware that this will only happen if all of his teammates are in great shape.
Gomez is optimistic about the approaching campaign as he went on saying that he has had enough time to fully recover and enjoy going through a proper season with Fiorentina and all of his comrades.
“I am happy with how pre-season training is going. I’ve had a long time to recover my form, doing many sports. I feel good and the injury is behind me now. I’m doing everything to be in top condition for the start of the season. Last year I gave my all, even if I didn’t play very much. This term I want to play regularly and give back to Fiorentina. This club signed me and renewed the contracts of Borja Valero and Gonzalo Rodriguez because it wants to grow. Hopefully we won’t have so many injury problems this year.” Former Bayern Munich player Mario Gomez said.
