GOMEZ FEELS THE PRESSURE
Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has said that the pressure of having to win every match in order to keep up with leaders Borussia Dortmund has been one of the reason for Bayern Munich not performing well since the Christmas break. Borussia Dortmund are currently the leaders of the Bundesliga table, as they have taken over from Bayern Munich. This comes as a total surprise for those who have not been in touch with the Bundesliga, as Bayern Munich were flying earlier in the season. It looked like none would be able to catch Bayern Munich in their quest for the Bundesliga title.
However, champions Borussia Dortmund have been able to recreate their form once again, as they now lead the table by a healthy points difference over Bayern Munich. Mario Gomez has been one of the best players for Bayern Munich this season. It is not all surprising to know that he is set to be awarded a new contract worth around € 45 million over the five years. It would significantly boost his current salary from € 7 million-€ 9 million per year. He is currently the top scorer of the club with 18 goals in just 23 appearances.
“We are missing luck and determination in front of the goal. At the back, there is impatience. We absolutely want to win and we know we need to win. But then we open up and run into problems. Due to the pressure of having to win, we get nervous and insecure. This should not happen to us,” Gomez told Bild. Bayern Munich have just won two matches in their last five, while they will be facing their Champions League opponents FC Basel in the worst possible fashion. Bayern Munich trail FC Basel 1-0 from the first leg.
